We are finding that the fast update cycle of open source software makes it a very viable option for teaching skills and are starting to find the level of functionality is often as good or better than proprietary equivalents. The students are legally able to take the software home for ongoing use.

- Notepad ++ (perfect for editing XHTML, CSS, XML etc)
- Scribus: Desktop Publishing Tool
- Inkscape: Vector drawing tool that saves SVG
- Firefox: Open source web browser
- Planner: Open source project management tool
